At its core Pilates is an exercise method. It is the exercises created by Mr. Joseph Pilates: taught in the order he chose to teach on the apparatus he designed, whilst holding in mind his intentions. This is what we mean by Classical Pilates. The classical method is steeped in a history, that has proven credibility. Pilates was a genius with the body.
In todays Pilates market place, there are many variations now on the work of Mr Pilates. It has been confused with core work, stability work, physio and then adapted to suit the intention of any given body worker. In truth, the Classical Pilates work is all of these things and more, what makes Joseph’s Pilates method unique is the sum of its whole, not a given exercise in isolation or work on a piece of apparatus. It is the full expression of his work that reaps the true rewards that the word Pilates now makes claims too.
Karine is a long time sportswoman. She played tennis and basketball at a national level and competed in numerous mini-triathlons. She discovered the Pilates method in 2004 while working in the health and fitnes industry and it immediately sparked her passion for flowing, controlled and creative movement.
Karine first obtained her certification through the Swissbody Pilates Academy in Geneva. She soon discovered the differences in the styles of pilates being taught and it became quickly apparent that Classical Pilates was the real deal. She decided to focus her training in Classical Pilates and this led her to complete her certification with Power Pilates in the UK. In 2015 Karine completed an Intensive (Master’s) program with world renowned Pilates instructor Shari Berkowitz (The Vetical Workshop and Shari Berkowitz).
Julie has been practicing Pilates and Yoga for nearly 20 years during which time she has gained a long and impressive list of certifications. Julie’s love of learning, dedication to her practice and extensive knowledge continue to add value to her adaptable teaching style and make her classes safe and interesting. Julie uses cheerful encouragement to offer challenging classes that will leave you feeling like you accomplished your health goals. Her aim is to tailor classes so students build strength and flexibility in a mindful way that will keep them making health a priority for life.
